The Trek Boys

My first attempt at figures was with Darth Vader. Got most of my pointers from friends, and Club members. So these guys were going to be my first attempt in doing real people. Or should I say, figures with skin tone.
I have always wanted to do the Star Trek guys. Have the idea of doing a diorama with them in a transporter room. But that is a future plan. So I purchased Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, and Dr. McCoy over e-bay. Mr. Scott will be built later and probably added to the bottom of this page.
After some discussion with some fellow Vinyl builders, we noticed that they most have had different Mold makers do each of the characters. Because there size, shape, and uniforms are no way consistent with each other. One thing for sure is that I know that Leonard Nimoy was taller than William Shatner and Deforest Kelley. But when I opened them up, Kirk was way way too tall. So what did I decide to do, I noticed that his proportions were correct except he had longer boots than the others. So I cut a section out of his boots, and then glued him back together. This also came in handy by placing his feet so he could stand on his own.
After having their seems puttied up, I started with the base coats of paint. With Kirk though, I realized that his uniform shirt is not a bright yellow or gold. so I added a bit of green into the mixture and that seems to be close to the original color.
Now unto detail and a wash. I did a wash in oils, with Spock, I used a green oil and then that gave him the tint that was just right, but if I used the darker colors, he did not look right. so he is a bit pale compared to the others, but it was on purpose. With the lighting of the camera, you may not see the green tint, but it is there.
I decided to try to take some photos of my progress in outdoor light, thinking that the natural light may show up better with their features and skin tones. They look good, but of course my Cat had to get into the picture.
