U.S.S. Talon
NCC-745
Razor Class Strike Cruiser
After making the Reprise, I decided that I loved the design of the model, but I knew that i could have done it better. So, I always said I was going to do another just like it and add features or aftermarket things to it to enhance the model So instead of making another one, I decided to strip this one down to bear plastic and start over. Now as you can see by the original Kit Bash picture below, I used a marble for a deflector dish. Thought it looked cool at first, but I remember how everyone commented on how I had a marble in there. And that erked me.
So I took that out and decided to go with a regular deflector dish of that time period. So since I didn't like the way the AMT/ERTL kit deflector looked, plus since I couldn't find it, I used a series 1 Deflector dish from the Polar Lights Enterprise. It fit nicely, and wasn't to small. I recessed it more into the hull than the way they stick out on the AMT/ERTL kits. Then I decided to buy some after market pieces from Federation Models. I got the Clear front red domes, and the Flux Chillers, (three things under those domes), so it had a more accurate look. Purchased my Decals from PNT models, and away I went.
Now I thought that the original Bridge looked crappy. So I added putty and formed a larger bridge area by adding more to the back of it. I always said there are not enough bathrooms on the bridge, and now I have enough room for a second one. LOL With the Grid lines, I was thinking of taking them off all together so it would have the smooth hull on top. But after looking through some of my Ship Design books, I saw a few that had the grid lines, but were not exactly the same or didn't take up the whole hull. So I sanded off the two outer lines and left the lines from their up to the bridge. Looked pretty good, plus helped me out in Decal placement.
I started to add decals, and I used an older set that I purchased a long time ago. While showing my progress around, I was informed that this was not the original Font that you see in the TV series Enterprise. So I stripped off the old numbers off the hull, and got a new set with the true font. While I was at it, I also thought that 710 would be the Class number of the Razor. So I changed it to 745 to show that it is much newer than the U.S.S. Reprise.
