Godzilla

I remember my Father buying me a Godzilla kit from Aurora when I was a kid. He never got into the Sci-Fi like I was, but he got me the model kit anyway. I used to love coming home from church and there were two shows I used to watch in the afternoon. That was whatever Abbott & Costello movie that was on, and then a Monster movie. And Godzilla was my Favorite. Then when I was a Member of the Local Ambulance service in our area, I used to do the sleep-over on Friday nights. and channel 9 at the time used to have Friday Night Fright Night. And even though it was open to all kinds of horror and monster movies, Godzilla made an appearance from time to time.
So again I wanted to do another Godzilla kit. And I know that the Polar Lights version is a little hard because of the plastic. But I wanted to do it anyway. So on to E-bay I went looking for one, and I came across this vinyl kit. It didn't look bad by the picture and it was a good price, so I ordered it. This is how it came to me in the pieces.
After assembling him together with a hair dryer and using some Apoxie Sculpt putty, he was together.
Then it was on to a Base coat of Green. By this picture he doesn't look to dark, but he actually was. I used Tamiya paints.
Then I had to add that shine to his spine. I used a Silver and painted with an Airbrush. At the time, I should have just used a brush because the silver went all over his back. So I had to clean up a Lot of over spray.
After I added a few details, I took some Graphite and rubbed it all over him and used my fingers to smooth it all out. This was to darken him up a bit since in the movies, he has a real dark color to him. Not in this picture, but I gave him a Coat of Future and that made the Graphite darken him real nice.
Then I wanted to make a base, I got some Self-drying clay from the Craft store, and "N" scale trees from the hobby store and pushed his footprints in the clay so he looks to have walked to the end. If you notice, I added the trees with some pushed down from him walking pass them.
I removed the trees after the clay dried and added 50/50 Elmers and Water and then added hobby Grass. I first painted the whole base brown so the dirt section could be seen if the grass didn't stick.
After it dried, I removed the loose grass, and since I did not add glue to the footprints, they remained brown.
I finally completed the Monster with a Dull Coat, and he was all ready for the base.
