M41 Walker Bulldog

This is my very first Tank.  Or Armor to those tread heads out there.

I am always open to try different pieces, and since I was in a club with mostly

Armor nuts, I thought I would give it a try.

I picked the Walker Bulldog because..... Duh!!  Walker !!!

I found it very interesting, and after spending much time with AMT/Ertl and Revell Monogram,

I found it nice to find a kit that actually went together without a lot a gaps to putty.

As in the first two photos, I started out by adding Styrene to the holes underneath

the tank, and then adding Zap-A-Gap to the holes.  Then I put in an activator to speed up

drying and sanded them smooth.  I found out from many of my Club meetings that the

old Tamiya kits had motors in them so the tanks actually moved with batteries and such.

And that is where the holes are from.  So I heard it was Taboo to leave these holes open.

Next, my friend Bill Wiseman explained to me that this tank never actually saw

service in the U.S. Army.  So instead of using the U.S. markings, I used the Japan

Ground Defense markings.  Another Taboo if it isn't correct. :-)

I used a Olive Drab green for the hull color and then gave it a few coats of

Future for the wash.  Then dull coated it.  I didn't add much detail and just used only

the kit parts with no aftermarket stuff.  I had fun trying to get the treads to look as

good as those I have seen at Club shows.  So I added a color of Rust, then Sand, then I dry brushed

silver to the edges to give it that worn look.  I think it is pretty good for a first tank, and it came

in Second Place at my Clubs Mini-Competition in the Intermediate Mechanical division.
