The Green Hornet's
Black Beauty
This model was made for my Boy's Martial Arts Instructor. He studied, and now teaches Jeet Kune Do. This was the Martial Art that Bruce Lee developed. Because he is so into Bruce Lee's fame, He told me how he enjoyed the show The Green Hornet. In this show, Bruce Lee played the part of Kato, the Hornets Driver and Side kick.
So since he helped me out in a few ways, I thought I would do this model for him.
I finally finished my Polar Lights Black Beauty. So I thought I would send a couple of pics for you to all see.
It was not a good mold job and had a little trouble getting some pieces to join. But it seemed to come out pretty well. I had to putty some parts on the trunk area because of some imperfections.
In order to bring the car up to what the original BB looked like, I went to the net and found a good site about the restoration of the original BB. That helped a lot in what she should looked like. But I had a problem finding anything about what the interior looked like. I have never seen the show, so I have no idea what it was supposed to be set up like. So I improvised and now I hope it is ok.
As for painting. I used Gloss Black for the body of the car, and then used a flat black for the roof. I hoped it would come out looking like the vinyl top. The inside I left the original plastic color that came from the mold. Adding a few colors to the rear seat area. So it would look like displays and such.
Another thing I found out was that the model is molded with the regular headlights instead of the Green ones seen in the show. I was told that the car was never seen on the show with these headlights. I found that strange. Hopefully my source was correct. But I left it with the regular headlights that came with the kit.
The missiles I painted all silver, then painted the heads red with yellow tips.
Adding a coat of Future to the whole car, then adding a wash to the Grill work. It came out better than I thought. I also did a wash to the wheels to give it that look of 3D.
When I Started to put the car together, I found out that the Metal bars for holding the wheels in place were missing. So I added some sheet styrene tubing and used that in place of the bars. So since I added these, I thought, how boring it is to have the front wheels straight. So I decided to show the car with the wheels turned instead. It gives it a little more believability.
